Global Citizen Girls Team wins TEVA Kayak-n-Run race in Tai Tam

article from www.actionasiaevents.com

Hong Kong – May 2, 2010 – With 65 teams of 2 it was a sea of red at race 1 of the TEVA Kayak n Run series at Tai Tam Bay with a full entry of the maximum 130 paddlers in the 4km ocean kayak, 7km trail run, 2km ocean kayak format.

teva kayak-n-run 3 “Great day, water conditions wonderful and flat, 5 teams kayaking close together first leg, had to run hard to pull away, good strategy, good finish” said race team winner Dr Andrew Thomson finishing in 1 hour 34 minutes 8 seconds paddling with co-partner Kurt Lynn.

“Yeah we had a lot of fun as broke away from the leading pack after the kayak running up the stairs to Shek O Peak. Fantastic format as love these multi-sport events and can’t wait for Discovery Bay,” said Thomson’s team partner CX Pilot Kurt Lynn of team Don’t make me come.

Not far behind were Triathletes Jereon Meijers and Tom Hardman. “Was good, could have done better if we knew the course. The difference was the running as being triathletes and not technical runners we’re strong in the kayaking with good cardio but not very good on the steep downhill sections. Coming from Europe, you really get to know Hong Kong well in these Action Asia races. Never would be able to see these areas if didn’t race”, said Meijers who finished 2nd overall wth Hardmann in 1 hour 41 minutes 34 seconds from team Who That.

“Wow, first time standing on a podium. Yes very happy with our performance as we knew we’d be strong in the kayak, which helped us stay close to the race leaders” said Damien Levy of Team Tag Heuer who partnered with Yannick Laborie. “I really like this race format of kayak run kayak as its much more exciting than just plain running” Laborie added. teva kayak-n-run 5

The Women’s team winners were seasoned adventure racers Julianne Rethfeldt and Diana Danyi from Team Global Citizen who finished in 1 hour 51 minutes and 45 seconds. “Nice change with some kayaking in Hong Kong finally as have been waiting for this series for so long” said Danyi.

The winning mixed team was Nora Senn and Alejandro Tripodoro from team Sen Trek who finished in 1 hour 53 minutes 1 second in a tight race with the other mixed teams close on their tail.

teva kayak-n-run 6 A record 65 teams of two (130 participants) started at the same time on water at Tai Tam Tuk for a 4 km ocean kayak leg out to Windy Gap and To Tei Wan before running 7 km (if they went the correct way as orienteering) to different check points passing Shek O Peak on Dragons Back inside Shek O Country Park, before the final 2 km ocean kayak back to Tai Tam Bay.

“It’s great TEVA is partnering with us again this year for this popular series as shows you how many people love to combine both mountain trail running and ocean kayaking together for this epic multi-sport event”, said Race Director & Course Designer Michael Maddess.

Race 2 of the TEVA Kayak n Run series moves to Discovery Bay on Jun 20th.
