Global Citizen Girls Team wins Action Asia Challenge
Amid close rivalry from a small number but highly professional ladies teams on an unusually hot winter day, the Global Citizen Girls Team Juliane Rethfeldt and Diana Danyi won the 2009 Action Asia Challenge race in women overall category. The 55-kilometer adventure race included mountain biking, trail running, climbing, rock scrambling, fixed lines and abseiling, canyoning, swimming and kayaking.

Starting from sea level at 6.30 a.m., the Global Citizen team scaled 2 mountains of 400 m elevation each with their mountain bikes, climbed up a rocky and overgrown footpath to the 539m high Kau Nga Ling mountain then took the plunge in full gear (helmet, harness, carabiners and slings) for a short swim between San Tau village and the airport.
| Following the swim, the two committed Eastern European ladies (one from east Germany, the other from Hungary) climbed up a slippery river gorge using fixed lines and cargo nets, abseiled down a waterfall and later a bridge and finally paddled over 10 kilometers in a 2-seater kayak to the finish line. The highly challenging course took 8 hours 4 minutes and 38 seconds for the Global Citizen Team to complete. |
