|
Pieter Geldenhuys is a born and bred Afrikaner, hailing from the picturesque town of Stellenbosch in the South African Winelands. He currently resides in Cape Town, where he represents Global Citizen South Africa, runs an inbound tourism business and teaches Entrepreneurship and technology at the Institute for Hospitality Training.
He has enjoyed three distinct careers spanning three continents: After graduating at the University of Stellenbosch in 1996 with a bachelor in Accounting, he spent two years working in travel and finance in Austria, England and Israel before joining the family business in 1998. Maties Travel, a medium sized retail travel business specializing in corporate travel management, showed consistent market-beating growth until the family decided to sell to Tourvest in 2003. Pieter proceeded to work for Tourvest, South Africa's leading tourism company, until 2006. He was ultimately responsible for the key portfolio of Corporate: Coastal, which comprised over 15 outlets and over 100 personnel. During this time he also completed his MBA at Stellenbosch. In 2006, Pieter accepted a facilitation position at the Global Village for Future Leaders of Business and Industry at the University of Lehigh, Bethlehem Pennsylvania. This heralded his departure from retail travel and the corporate sector. He spent the next 14 months teaching, learning Spanish and backpacking Latin America.
He currently enjoys representing Global Citizen and running his own business, PGTops, which focuses on day tours in and around Cape Town. He is constantly developing the teaching curriculum at the Hotel School to meet current needs, and his bicycle and guitar remain his primary obsessions.
